Though universally identified now as a symbol of support for those affected by Breast Cancer, both the color pink and the ribbon symbol have been controversial from the beginning. The first awareness symbols for breast cancer were loops of a peach color! 🎗️💗
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness. Pink ribbons, and the color pink in general, are generally taken to identify the wearer as a survivor or to express moral support for women with breast cancer.
From a series of tartans associated with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, this tartan from Pendleton Woollen Mills, was woven into scarves from which a percentage of the sales proceeds were donated to the foundation. The mission of the Komen Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease through research, education, screening and treatment.
