Alien Day

"IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM!"

This memorable tagline from the 1979 science-fiction horror film, Alien, directed by Ridley Scott, didn't adequately prepare movie-goers for the intense shock scenes which made this movie a cult hit. Alien follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo who encounter a deadly and aggressive extraterrestrial set loose on the ship. Alien Day (4-26) is a nod to LV-426, the moon where these xenomorphs "strange forms" are first discovered. Given the species name Internecivus raptus ("murderous thief"), these Aliens feature in three subsequent sequels as well as crossover films such as Alien vs. Predator and others. The 1986 sequel, Aliens, follows Sigourney Weaver's character Ellen Ripley as she returns to the moon where her crew first encountered the hostile Alien creature, but this time accompanied by a unit of brave space marines, to which this tartan is dedicated. Interestingly, the actors playing the Colonial Marines in Aliens were required to read the Robert A. Heinlein novel Starship Troopers as part of their preparations prior to filming, and also took part in a training boot camp run by the SAS (Special Air Service), the UK's elite special forces regiment, to help them effectively portray military combat personnel on screen.👽

In space, no one can hear you scream (nor peek under your kilt easily for that matter).

This official tartan is dedicated to the fictional Colonial Marines associated with the 1986 American science fiction action horror film, Aliens, the sequel to the original 1979 Alien franchise film.  It was designed for use by the  USCM (United States Colonial Marines) and the UKCM (United Kingdom Colonial Marines), informal groups of friends and associates who are deeply interested in motion picture props and costumes, specifically those based on the James Cameron film 'Aliens'. Both USCM and UKCM undertake charity work in their respective countries, usually appearing in costume. The tartan has been designed by the 'CEO' of the Aliens Legacy organisation and head of the USCM. The tartan colours were inspired by camouflage patterns. The tartan is used for kilts worn by members at official events and functions.

Written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, William Hope, and Bill Paxton, the film follows Weaver's character Ellen Ripley as she returns to the planet where her crew encountered the hostile Alien creature, this time accompanied by a unit of space marines.
