Vroom! Vroom! Gentlemen, start your engines! Did you see today's Grand Prix? The British Grand Prix has been won by eleven British drivers with 25 wins between them: Stirling Moss, Peter Collins, Jim Clark, Tony Brooks, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, John Watson, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Johnny Herbert, David Coulthard, and Lewis Hamilton. Jackie Stewart, nicknamed the "Flying Scot", competed in Formula One races between 1965 and 1973, winning three World Drivers' Championships and twice finishing as runner-up over those nine seasons. Stewart has remained highly active with the sport, running his own team and being one of the most vocal proponents for the improvement of safety standards in Formula One. 🏎️🏁🏎️
The British Grand Prix is a race in the calendar of the FIA Formula One World Championship. It is currently held at the Silverstone Circuit near the village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire in England.
This tartan was designed for Jackie Stewart's Formula One motor racing team.
Sir John Young "Jackie" Stewart, OBE, is a British former Formula One racing driver from Milton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, a village fifteen miles west of Glasgow. Scotland. Nicknamed the "Flying Scot", he competed in Formula One between 1965 and 1973, winning three World Drivers' Championships, and twice finishing as runner-up over those nine seasons. He is regarded by many as one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport.
Outside of Formula One, he narrowly missed out on a win at his first attempt at the Indianapolis 500 in 1966, and competed in the Can-Am series in 1970 and 1971. Between 1997 and 1999, in partnership with his son, Paul, he was team principal of the Stewart Grand Prix Formula One racing team.
Stewart was also instrumental in improving the safety of motor racing, campaigning for better medical facilities and track improvements at motor racing circuits.
Stewart's racing helmet was white, with the red, green, blue, white and yellow Royal Stewart tartan surrounding the top.
n the 1971 Birthday Honours Stewart was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). In 2001 he received a knighthood. In both cases the honour was for services to motor racing.
