The Day of the Doctor

The Doctor: "We all make mistakes sometimes, don't we, K9?"
K9: "Negative."

~ Doctor Who, "Armageddon Factor", 1979

Are you a Doctor Who fan? Do you have a favourite Doctor? Or perhaps you're fond of the Doctor's dog, K9, (occasionally written K-9), the name of several fictional robotic canines in the longest running science-fiction series which began on 23 November, 1963, and was revived in 2005 after 16 years off the screen. Acquired by Doctor Who's character in the 1977 serial (The Invisible Enem) the first two incarnations of K9 travelled alongside the Fourth Doctor (portrayed by Tom Baker) until 1981. In these stories, K9 proves useful for his powerful laser weapon concealed in his nose, his encyclopedic knowledge, and his vast computer intelligence. K9 occasionally sported a tartan collar, perhaps to complement the Fourth Doctor's famous scarf! K-9 even had is own television show (2009–2010), a British/Australian comedy/adventure series focusing on his adventures in London 2050! Woof! Beep! Affirmative! Woof! 🐕 🤖

"The Day of the Doctor" marks a special episode of the Doctor Who British science fiction television program, celebrating the program's fiftieth anniversary,  airing on BBC One on 23 November 2013, in both 2D and 3D.

It was broadcast simultaneously in 94 countries and achieved the Guinness World Record for the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama.  The episode starred Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and Jenna Coleman as his companion, Clara Oswald. Previous lead actors David Tennant and Billie Piper returned for the episode, Tennant reprising his role as the Tenth Doctor, while Piper portrayed a sentient doomsday weapon called the Moment, projected as an image based on her character Rose Tyler.

K-9 is the name of several fictional robotic dogs (canines) in the long-running series first appearing in 1977.

This tartan is an interpretation of dog collar tartan from the Doctor Who K9 robot, 'the loyal friend to Tom Baker's Doctor between 1977 to 1981.'  It was thought to be a fashion tartan of the period, but has not been positively identified.
