Armed Forces Day (UK)

Armed Forces Day (formerly Veterans' Day) in the United Kingdom is an annual event celebrated the last Saturday in  June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. Veterans' Day was first observed in 2006 and the name changed to Armed Forces Day in 2009.   The date of 27th June was chosen as the pivotal date around the initial celebrations as it came the day after the anniversary of the first investiture of the Victoria Cross, in Hyde Park, London in 1857.

Celebrations and memorials are hosted each year in different locales all over the United Kingdom and usually involve an entire week of recognition for service men and women, reservists, cadets, and families.

Officially designated to raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity.  Help for Heroes provides lifelong support to Service Personnel and Military Veterans with injuries, illnesses and wounds sustained while serving in the British Armed Forces.

Help for Heroes was launched on 1 October 2007 to help provide better facilities for British servicemen and women who have been wounded or injured in the line of duty.

The colours in this tartan represent the UK Army, Navy and Air Force.
