The Rocky Horror Picture Show

"🎶 Let's do the Time Warp again ....
It's just a jump to the left ..."

~ The Time Warp, Richard O'Brien/Patricia Quinn/Nell Campbell/Charles Gray, 1973

Retro movie theater interactive fan fun, anyone? Pack the bag of rice and tartan up! Still in limited release four decades after its premiere, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running theatrical release in film history! Beginning as a stage production, released this day in 1973, it debuted on the silver screen in 1975 with Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meatloaf! This tartan bases its colours on the tartan bow and cummerbund worn by character Brad Majors in the film, who, along with his fiancée Janet, is swept into the world of Riff Raff, Magenta, Columbia, and Dr. Frank N. Furter, the self-proclaimed "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania." If you need a "satanic mechanic" this may be the tartan for you - fishnet stockings and platform heels optional. 😜 👄

"Let's do the Time Warp again ... !"

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 British-American musical comedy horror film, which premiered in the UK August 14th with a later USA release on September 25th, directed by Jim Sharman. Although largely critically panned on release, it soon became known as the midnight movie when audiences began returning to participate with the film at the Waverly Theater in New York City the following year.

The audience participation trend continues to this day, with audience members dressing as characters, dancing the Time Warp along with the film, shouting rejoinders at key points in the film, and throwing toast, water, toilet paper, hot dogs, and rice at appropriate points in the movie.

This time-warp tartan was designed as an attempted re-creation of the pattern used for Brad Majors' bow tie in the film.

Still in limited release nearly four decades after its premiere, the film has a large international following and was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2005.

A criminologist narrates the tale of the newly engaged couple Brad Majors and Janet Weiss who find themselves lost and with a flat tire on a cold and rainy late November evening. Seeking a telephone, the couple walk to a nearby castle where they discover a group of strange characters holding an Annual Transylvanian Convention.
