Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah! Chances are your university or college, particularly in the UK, Canada, or US, has its own official tartan! In the US, College Footaball Season is beginning, and to mark this, a recently designed rare purple tartan representing the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University! The Horned Frogs represent the set of athletic teams at TCU, including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, cross-country, swimming and diving, rifle teams, track and field, and more! The "Horned Frog" nickname and mascot refers to the Texas horned lizard, also known as the "horned frog". TCU's official colors are purple and white. Since the 1990s, the Horned Frogs have gradually incorporated black as a color and it now features prominently as a tertiary color with most uniforms having black trim and TCU teams occasionally wearing black alternate uniforms. The Horned Frogs will also occasionally wear red as an accent color, a reference to horned lizards shooting blood from their eye sockets as a defense mechanism! Good golly! Go Frogs! 💜 🤍 🦎 🐸 🏈
In the spring of 2018, Provost R Nowell Donovan had a vision for an official Texas Christian University (TCU) tartan. Interior Design and Fashion Merchandising senior Aimee Hibler designed six unique tartan options that were voted upon by TCU students, faculty, staff and alumni with this design being the winner. The design uses the University’s colours.
