Hello Kitty Days
"Come come Kitty Kitty
You're so silly silly
Don't go Kitty Kitty
Play with me"
~ Hello Kitty, Avril Lavigne, 2013
Are you a fan? Fictional character Hello Kitty, also known by her full name "Kitty White" was first introduced to the public in 1974. According to her backstory, she is a perpetual 3rd-grade student who lives outside of London! Kitty and her twin sister, Mimi, celebrate their birthday on 1 November 1974 and were honored by a multi-day convention in 2014 in early November. First marketed toward pre-teenage girls, Hello Kitty's image found commercial success among not only her original target audience but adolescent and adult consumers as well, and has even been developed into luxury branded products such as the Hello Kitty Stratocaster electric guitar, an Airbus A330-200 commercial passenger jet airliner, a Louis Vuitton pink special edition Mini Cooper, artisan wines, and designer jewelry! Spokespeople for the company which created Hello Kitty, Sanrio, have said that Hello Kitty does not have a mouth because they want people to "project their feelings onto the character" and "be happy or sad together with Hello Kitty." Regardless, she is the second highest-grossing franchise of all time, only recently lost her first place popularity character status to Anpanman and Pokémon's Pikachu! 🐈
Hello Kitty is a fictional character created by Yuko Shimizu in 1974 and introduced on a vinyl coin purse by the Japanese Sanrio company in March of 1975.
Initially known only as "the white kitten with no name" Hello Kitty now has a full profile with an elaborate backstory. Her full name is Kitty White, and she was born in the suburbs of London, England, on November 1. Her height is described as five apples and her weight as three apples.
She is bright and kind-hearted and good at baking cookies. Her favorite subjects in school are English, music, and art.
Sanrio decided to make Hello Kitty British because at the time of her inception, foreign countries, in particular Britain, were trendy in Japan.
Originally aimed at pre-adolescent females, Hello Kitty's market has broadened to include adult consumers. She can be found on a variety of products ranging from school supplies and fashion accessories to high-end consumer products, including diamond necklaces. There are two Japanese theme parks devoted to Hello Kitty, Harmonyland and Puroland.
Hello Kitty has two official tartans, one in red and one in pink.
