"You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve, and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart" ~ The Sorting Hat, J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Has the Sorting Hat placed you in House Gryffindor under Headmistress Minerva McGonagall? Well, here's your (unofficial) tartan! Gryffindor is one of the four houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter novels and movies. The house colors are scarlet and gold; the corresponding element is fire; and the mascot is a lion!

From the Harry Potter Universe, today is set aside for all those who identify with House Gryffindor!  Here is one of four unofficial whimsical tartans designed for the four houses of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Designed by Dan Shackelford, all of the house tartans use a grey and black background representing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the designer:

"Gryffindor is one of the four houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter novels and movies. Their house colors are red and gold, their element is fire and their animal is a lion."

Gryffindor values courage, bravery, nerve, and chivalry. Its mascot is the lion, and its colours are scarlet and gold. The Head of this house is the Transfiguration teacher and Deputy Headmistress, Minerva McGonagall, and the house ghost is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, more commonly known as Nearly Headless Nick. According to Rowling, Gryffindor corresponds roughly to the element of fire. The founder of the house is Godric Gryffindor.
